Las Vegas, NV (KTNV) -- Las Vegas police are investigating a death in Ice Box Canyon at Red Rock Canyon National Conservation Area.

Police received the call around 1:45 p.m. on Monday from a man who said his father had fallen while hiking.

The Metro Search & Rescue team responded and went about one-mile into the canyon where they found the man deceased.

The man was in his mid-50s and his death may have been the result of a medical episode.

A helicopter airlifted his body out of the canyon.

Ice Box Canyon is rocky and deemed to be difficult to hike, according to signs posted.

Red Rock Canyon was fee-free on Monday because of the Veterans Day holiday.

Action News will post more information as it becomes available.
