Las Vegas, NV (KTNV) -- "She was my favorite cousin and one of my favorite people in the whole world. She's a wonderful person," says Jamie Winters.
Jamie Winters is speaking out on behalf of her cousin Ashley Indico. She said Sunday her family wants to celebrate Ashley's life as a wife and mother, not as a victim.
She added, "She was a wonderful mother and amazing person. She would help anyone in need." Including her sister-in-law Elinor who fell on hard times and was living in Ashley's apartment on North Rancho Drive for several weeks.
On Wednesday, police arrested Elinor and charged her with murder and manslaughter after Ashley and her unborn child died from multiple stab wounds.
Ashley and her husband have two young children and were about to welcome their third this week.
Jamie said, "She was excited to meet the baby. They didn't know what they were having so she was really excited to find out the sex of the baby." Ashley's husband Aris has relocated to another apartment in their community.
According to her cousin, his number one concern now is his two young children.
"He is heartbroken I mean he just lost the best woman he ever knew and his unborn child, but he's holding up pretty well, more so than anyone else I think in this situation," said Jamie.
Winters said they will move forward because that's what Ashley would want them to do. But it will be a long difficult journey.
"We want justice. We truly believe that justice will be served for Ashley."
The suspect, Elinor Indico, will be in court Monday morning for her arraignment. She told police that she acted in self-defense.
