Las Vegas, NV (KTNV) -- The Clark County coroner has identified the 18-year-old killed in a motorcycle crash last night as Angel Velasquez from Las Vegas.
Velasquez was killed after he ran into a car that turned in front of him on Van Patten Street near Sahara Avenue.
The car left the scene but was followed by a good Samaritan. That person was able to provide information to local law enforcement and they traced the driver to his home.
29-year-old Jvon Williams was arrested for felony hit and run causing death and felony DUI.
He has been booked into the Clark County Detention Center.
Velasquez was a member of Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department's Explorer program.
He became an Explorer at the age of 16 and hoped to join the police department.
According to Officer Krista Bullard, he was an "energizing leader" in the program and the department's "go-to guy."
Bullard said that Velasquez loved to go on ride-a-longs and was a criminal justice student at College of Southern Nevada.
Fellow Explorer will hold a car wash fundraiser from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Aug. 3 at Brake Masters on Windmill Parkway and Eastern Avenue.
A bank fund has been established in his name. Donations are being accepted at Wells Fargo. The account number is 3771101486.
