Community support continues for family of teen killed in crash

CREATED Aug. 4, 2013

Las Vegas, NV (KTNV) -- The community continues to rally around the family of a local teenager killed in a motorcycle crash.

Another car wash fundraiser was held Sunday for the family of 19-year-old Angel Velasquez.

It took place at Abuela's Tacos on Sahara.

The fundraiser was organized by the Metro Explorers. Organizers said it's great seeing the community's support.

"Seeing the community come out and help one of their own who hasn't made his dreams complete yet, but was going to make those dreams come true," said Metro Officer Michael Roe.

Velasquez was pursuing a career to be a police officer.

He died earlier this week after a suspected drunk driver slammed into his motorcycle.

The memorial continues to grow at the scene where he died. Candles, flowers and pictures are being placed in his honor.

A public visitation will take place on Tuesday at Palm Mortuary downtown, and funeral services will be held Wednesday.
