Las Vegas, NV (KTNV) -- A close friend of Officer Alyn Beck has come forward to share his memories and to paint a picture of a life that was lost.
Action News spoke with one of Officer Beck's best friends. He said Beck was a classic hero, and a warrior who was always optimistic.
He could be a beast when it came to yard work, but also had a tender side. He was passionate about doing the right thing.
"He absolutely loved what he did. He loved protecting people in the public. He loved bringing down bad guys. He loved outsmarting them. He loved outrunning them. The guy was passionate, he was hungry about doing the right thing for us," Tracy Smith expressed.
Smith wrote a blog just hours after hearing the horrific news. He wanted to be a voice for his friend.
Beck left behind a wife and three children.
Action News spoke with Smith via Skype on Monday. Knowing Beck as he did, he still can't believe how he died in the restaurant.
"It's incomprehensible that this happened to Alyn because he was so well-trained in hand-to-hand combat, in weapons skills, tactical strategy. A lot of what Metro uses is a result of Alyn's work in developing tactics. This should never have happened to someone like Alyn."
Smith said Alyn would want everyone to move forward and focus on being closer to each other, embrace their families and reach out to the community.
