Las Vegas, NV (KTNV) -- The Las Vegas City Council is scheduled to discuss medical marijuana dispensaries within city limits at a meeting Wednesday.
Medical marijuana has actually been legal in the state for 14 years. The problem is that patients have no way of actually buying it in Nevada because dispensaries have not been set up.
But, that could soon change.
The city council could decide if it wants to move forward and allow legal medical marijuana dispensaries and other businesses in Las Vegas.
The council issued a moratorium to delay development last September. That moratorium expired on Monday.
If the council does decide to allow dispensaries to be established, they still have to get staff to come up with zoning regulations and other rules.
Another possibility is the council could vote on extending the moratorium for another six months.
Right now, there are more than 5,000 medical marijuana card holders in Nevada.
