CREATED Jan. 21, 2014

Las Vegas, NV (KTNV) -- The Clark County Fire Department responded to a house fire on Tuesday evening.

It happened just before 4:30 p.m. on Wichita Court, near Warm Springs Road and the 215, in southwest Las Vegas.

The department said one child was transported to University Medical Center, but later died from his injuries.

The Clark County coroner's office has identified the child as 4-year-old Maximiliano Rene Ibarra-Martinez. The official cause of death is pending further investigation.

When firefighters arrived on the scene, they received reports of victims trapped inside. They entered the home to search for any victims. They located the young boy, who was unconscious and not breathing.

Fire officials said the boy's mother and a sister were at home at the time of the fire but were not hurt.

Arriving crews were able to knock down the fire within about ten minutes.

The CCFD and Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department are conducting a joint investigation as part of their normal protocols for investigating any fire involving death.

It's unclear what caused the fire.
