(KTNV) -- Math, reading, and history: a lot of our kids spend hours doing homework every night. But now a school in Bakersfield, Calif., has decided to try a different approach.
Teachers are giving less homework but more reading projects.
"We think that if something is sent home, it should be sent home for a purpose. We think it should be something that's meaningful and that's going to be helping them learn the material, as opposed to something that they might just do because they've always done it," says Norris Elementary School Principal Daniel Wierather.
Besides cutting back, the homework that is now being assigned is structured to have more parents involvement.
