North Las Vegas, NV (KTNV) -- Bail has been set at $320,000 for an 18-year-old suspected hit and run driver.

Nyakueth Tear appeared in court through a video conference on Monday from the city jail.

District attorneys still have one more week to file charges.

The judge said Tear is facing eight counts of attempting to leave the scene of an accident.

Julio Alavez was in court to see the accused driver in person. His uncle, 54-year-old Vincent Alavez, is still unresponsive following brain surgery at UMC. He was one of eight victims who police said Tear ran over on Thursday night.

The family didn't want to talk at court on Monday; an attorney has advised them not to comment, but they did say this accident has caused financial strain.

At church services on Sunday, members of Iglesia De Cristo prayed and offered donations for the victims.

Tear is due back in court in a week to face possible charges.
