Bail set for man accused of killing Angel Velasquez
Las Vegas, NV (KTNV) -- Bail has been set at $500,000 for the man accused of driving drunk and killing Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department Explorer Angel Velasquez.
29-year-old Jvon Williams appeared in court early Wednesday morning. Family members were present for the hearing.
Williams is accused of driving drunk and causing a crash that killed the 19-year-old Velasquez on Aug. 1.
The crash happened near Sahara Avenue and Las Vegas Boulevard. Velasquez was on his brand-new motorcycle when Williams allegedly turned in front of him and he crashed into Williams' vehicle.
Williams fled the scene but a Good Samaritan followed him and reported his license plate number to Las Vegas police.
Williams' mother has claimed that her son, a military veteran, suffers from post-traumatic stress syndrome and that it led him to drinking and driving.
Velasquez will be buried Wednesday.
