Here are the upcoming events for getting your child the proper start they need for the 2014-15 school year.

Included are no-cost immunizations throughout the month.

JULY 29-AUGUST 3

Back to school at The Summit! Shopper are invited to head back to school and earn rewards and enter a giveaway. If shoppers spend more than $200 or more at any five stores, restaurants or the movies at the Summit, they will earn a $25 Summit gift card. Shoppers must redeem their receipts by 5:30 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 6 at the Guest Services office located near J. Crew.

For those looking to win back-to-school prizes, starting on Monday Aug. 4, Facebook fans can enter to win a prize package valued at more than $500 including a $100 gift card to The Summit, movie tickets and free meals at Fatburger. One winner will be randomly selected on Friday, Aug. 29 at 10 a.m.

NOW to AUGUST 5

Peggy's Attic is asking the community to donate new backpacks, school supplies and school uniforms to children in foster care.

Located on 701 North Pecos Road, the donation hours at Peggy's Attic are 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Monday through Thursday and Saturday. Peggy's Attic is closed on Fridays during the summer. You can call (702) 455-5424 to make arrangements to drop off donations outside of these hours.

The goal is to receive 400 backpacks and enough school supplies to fill the backpacks by Aug. 5. 

All collected backpacks, uniforms and school supplies will be given to the children in care and their caregivers on Wednesday Aug. 6 at Peggy's Attic from 8:30 a.m. until noon.

AUGUST 1-3

Teachers enrolled in Staples Teacher Rewards program will receive a coupon for 25 percent off any purchase of $10 or more that can be redeemed during the Teacher Appreciation Event. During the event, teachers will also receive a free academic "Calendar of Savings" with teacher-specific offers each month so they can save all year long.

Educators who are not currently Teacher Rewards members can sign up at any Staples store, August 1-3, and receive 25 percent back in rewards during this special Teacher Appreciation event. The special savings offer - exclusive to teachers - excludes technology. Exclusions apply, see store for details.

AUGUST 1-14

Dunkin' Donuts partners with The Shade Tree for school supplies drive: Dunkin' Donuts will partner with The Shade Tree and will host a school supplies drive for the nonprofit.

Dunkin' Donuts guest can donate school supplies to any of the Southern Nevada Dunkin' Donuts location (with the exception of the Fremont Hotel and Casino and Las Vegas Outlet Mall kiosk).

Items needed for The Shade Tree's annual "Back to School Shopping" event include:

  • Paper
  • Pencils
  • Crayons
  • Colored pencils
  • Erasers
  • Pencil Boxes
  • Folders
  • Binders
  • Gently used uniforms or clothing for boys and girls

AUGUST 1-28

Bank of America is hosting a valley-wide school drive from Aug. 1-31. This is the 4th year for the drive. Donations will benefit Sandy Miller Elementary School and Monaco Middle School. Collection receptacles will be stationed at each of BOA's banking centers in Southern Nevada. Desired supplies include paper, backpacks, pens and pencils, calculators, rulers, dictionaries, notebooks, erasers, P.E. equipment and school uniform garments.

AUGUST 2

IMMUNIZATIONS: (Green Valley Library) 2797 North Green Valley Parkway, Henderson, from noon to 4 p.m. (Southwest Medical Associates) 650 North Nellis Boulevard, Las Vegas, from 9 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. (FirstMed Health and Wellness Center) 3343 South Eastern Avenue, Las Vegas, from 9 a.m. to noon.

Continued summer reading program: The Green Valley location also will add two more Saturday drop-in story time sessions. This event will be from 2 to 3 p.m.

EOS Showcase Partners with After-School All-Stars Las Vegas for annual Back-to-School Drive: The End of Summer (EOS) Showcase selected After-School All-Stars Las Vegas (ASAS) as this year's charity party for the annual EOS showcase in Boulder City.

This event will be held at Veterans' Memorial Park located on 1650 Buchanan Boulevard in Boulder City from 5 p.m. to 10 p.m.

More than 1,500 people are expected to see the car show, dance competition, food trucks and more. The event is free to attend and all ages are welcome.

All attendees are encouraged to bring and donate school supplies that will be distributed by ASAS among the 5,000 underprivileged students in 13 CCSD middle and elementary schools who participate in the program.

Andson's 3rd Annual Back 2 Class Bash: Andson, the M Resort and numerous individual donors will host the this event to celebrate education with entertainment, arts and crafts, food, inflatables, carnival games and community vendors.

This event will take place at Goett Family Park, 10950 Southern Highlands Parkway from 9 to 11 a.m.

The bash will distribute hundreds of backpacks and sackpacks filled with school supplies donated by the Las Vegas Hospitality Association.

The event will also provide free health screenings, dental kits and immunization record loop-up and many giveaways from numerous local community service providers, community leaders and representatives.

AUGUST 4

Safekey Registration starts: Registration for Safekey for the 2014-15 school year opens to start off Safekey week.

To register:

Submit a Participant Information Form to the Safekey Office, located on 416 North Seventh Street (between Bonanza and Mesquite Avenue).

To register and pay, use one of the following options:

Spanish speaking staffers will be present at all of the following registration sites.

Safekey office is open Monday through Friday from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.

AUGUST 5

National Night Out: The Ward 1 National Night Out Event will be held at Clark High School, located on 4291 Pennwood Avenue.

AUGUST 6

Safekey Registration: Registration for Safekey continues from 4 for 7 p.m. at the Cimarron Rose Community Center, located on 5591 North Cimarron Road. Another place to register on this day is at the East Las Vegas Community Center, located on 250 North Eastern Avenue (at the same time as the Cimarron Rose).

AUGUST 8-21

Sugar Factory American Brasserie will support Communities In Schools of Nevada's (CISN) "Fill the Bus" back-to-school drive by accepting donations at its Town Square location.

They are no accepting donations from Friday Aug. 8 to Thursday Aug. 21.

Sugar Factory is located on 6605 South Las Vegas Boulevard, ext to AMC Town Square.

Donors are encouraged to drop off school school supplies, such as backpacks, folders pencils and notebooks. Sugar Factory will match donations with its own line of pens, notebooks and other signature school supplies.

AUGUST 7

Safekey Registration: Safekey staff will be registering children at Doolittle Community Center, located on 1950 North J. Street and at the Mirabelli Community Center, located on 6200 Hargrove Avenue.

AUGUST 9

IMMUNIZATIONS: (Cashman Center) 850 Las Vegas Boulevard North, Las Vegas, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. (Meadows Mall) 4300 Meadows Lane, Las Vegas, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Kids clothing swap: The Paseo Verde Library, located on 280 South Green Valley Parkway, adults can attend a kids clothing swap from 10 a.m. to noon for sizes newborn through youth size 20. 

How it works, parents drop off a bag of children's clothing at the Paseo Verde reference desk between Tuesday, Aug. 5 through Friday Aug. 8. Once they do that, the parents receive a ticket for every bag they drop off. On this day (Saturday, Aug. 9), between 10 a.m. and noon they can return to pick out a bag of "new to you" back-to school clothes.

Cox back-to-school fair: CCSD will be there along with 30 more booths to help your child get ready for school. School registration, zoning, transportation and low cost immunizations (parents must bring shot records) are just a few things that will be at the fair. Our Good Morning Las Vegas on air teams will also be making appearances.

On this day it will be at the Meadows Mall from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

On this day, Channel 13 anchor Casey Smith and Channel 13 meteorologist Greg Bennett will be there between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m.

AUGUST 10

CASA Foundation partners with Square Salon to help foster children: The CASA Foundation will partner with the Square Salon to sponsor a back-to-school event for foster children. 

The event will be located at Square Salon, located on 1225 Fort Apache Boulevard (at the intersection of Charleston and Fort Apache across from the Mimi's Restaurant) from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

The CASA Foundation is calling on Las Vegas locals to help make a difference for children in foster care by donating backpacks and school supplies for this event.

AUGUST 12-15

Safekey Registration: Early registration for Safekey, before and after school recreational enrichment programs hosted by the City of Henderson at all Henderson public elementary and middle schools, is available from 2 to 6 p.m.

AUGUST 15

A back-to-school event will take place from 4 to 8 p.m. Aug. 15 at the Cambridge Recreation Center on Cambridge Street. UMC Children's Hospital will be given away from car seats; Nevada DOT will be giving away free bike helmets; South Central Area Command for the Las Vegas police will be giving away free back-sacs; the University of Nevada, Las Vegas' Vulberable Road Users Project will be handing out pencils, erasers and other goodies; and various groups will be on hand to talk about safety issues and school transportation.

AUGUST 16

IMMUNIZATIONS: (Boulevard Mall) 3528 South Maryland Parkway, Las Vegas, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. (Laughlin Fire Station) 50 East Laughlin Civic Drive, Laughlin, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Teen Vogue Back-to-school: Town Square Las Vegas, located on 6605 Las Vegas Boulevard South, is taking part in Teen Vogue Back-to-School Saturdays initiative. 

Be aware for deals and latest fashion trends for the upcoming school year. Also, Town Square Patrol will award prizes and merchandise to select shoppers throughout the day. 

This event will start today from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m.

AUGUST 17

Teen Vogue Back-to-school: This is the extension from the pervious day. On this day, it will last from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m.

AUGUST 19

IMMUNIZATIONS: (James Cashman Middle School) 4622 West Desert Inn Road, Las Vegas, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.

AUGUST 22

IMMUNIZATIONS: (Southern Nevada Health District) 330 South Valley View Boulevard, Las Vegas, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. (Whitney Elementary School) 5005 Keenan Ave., from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

FILL THE BUS: Samm's Woodfired Pizza & Grill locations, along with Sammy's Restaurant & Bar in Henderson, Nev., are serving as collection centers for school supplies as part of Communities In Schools of Nevada's second annual 'Fill the Bus' campaign. Guests who donate $5 or more worth of supplies will receive a coupon for a free pizza with their next purchase. Requested donation items include binders, highlighters, notebooks, pencils, pens, backpacks, white or navy polo shirts and jeans. Items from Sammy's and other local participants will be collected outside Sam's Club at 7100 Arroyo Crossing Parkway on Friday, Aug. 22, and then distributed to students served by CIS Nevada. Sammy's will offer a coupon for a buy-one, get-one free pizza for guests who donate $5 worth of supplies or more. The offer is valid once per person, and restrictions apply. Participating Sammy's locations include: 1501 N. Green Valley Parkway, Henderson; 9516 W. Flamingo Road, Las Vegas; 7345 Arroyo Crossing Parkway, Las Vegas; 7160 N. Durango Drive, Las Vegas; and 6500 W. Sahara Ave., Las Vegas.

BACK-TO-SCHOOL FAIR: Mayor Pro Tem Stavros S. Anthony is hosting the annual Ward 4 Back-To-School Fair at Dunrango Hills YMCA on North Durango Drive. Free school supplies will be given out to students while supplies last, and everyone is invited to watch the free movie Monsters University. The event begins at 6:30 p.m.

AUGUST 23

IMMUNIZATIONS: (Galleria Mall) 1300 West Sunset Road, Henderson, from 9 am. to 1 p.m. (Valley View Recreational Center) 500 Harris Street, Henderson, from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. (Southern Nevada Health District) 330 S. Valley View Blvd., from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Cox back-to-school fair: (See Aug. 9 for more details) The Galleria at Sunset from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Good Morning Las Vegas on air crew that will make a special guest appearance: Beth Fisher and Micah Manalo will be there between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m.

Life of Las Vegas back-to-school event: Life of Las Vegas will be holding a back-to-school event to provide backpacks and school supplies for local families. 

The event will be held at the Aliante Nature Discovery park from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.

AUGUST 24

Join in supporting the CARE Coalition for their back to school fair at Aliante Park, 2627 Nature Park Drive, North Las Vegas from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

This health and wellness resource fair will feature vendors and organizations who provide beneficial services to families in the southern Nevada community.

The event will have school supplies giveaways, health car providers to do a free health screening as well as various activities for the whole family.

AUGUST 28

Locker decoration session: The Gibson Library, located on 100 West Lake Mead Parkway, teens can attend a crafting session from 4 to 5 p.m. that focuses on creating decorations for their school lockers.

SEPTEMBER 8

Operation School Bell: The Assistance League of Las Vegas will launch their annual Operation School Bell program at their headquarters, located on 6446 West Charleston. 

The program will run from September through April and will provide over 8,300 at-risk children a back-to-school shopping experience.
