Attempted robbery leads to woman's death

Las Vegas, NV (KTNV) -- A woman was killed Saturday night after two gunmen allegedly attempted to rob her.
It happened around 10:30 p.m. on the 200 block of Jefferson Street.
Police responded to the scene after sounds of gunfire were reported. Arriving officers observed a vehicle with no lights driving away from the area.
Officers stopped the vehicle where both the driver, a 16-year-old male juvenile and passenger, 19-year-old William Copeland were taken into custody.
Additional arriving officers were directed to the area of H Street and Monroe Avenue where they discovered an elderly woman lying on the sidewalk suffering from an apparent gunshot wound.
Although critically injured she was able to provide officers with a statement. The victim was transported to UMC Trauma where she succumbed to her injuries.
The homicide investigation revealed the victim was walking in the area of H Street and Monroe Avenue when the suspects pulled up in a vehicle.
Police said Copeland approached and attempted to rob the victim at gun point. When she refused to cooperate, Copeland fired the handgun striking the victim.
As a result of the investigation William Copeland was booked into the Clark County Detention Center where he faces charges of murder with a deadly weapon, conspiracy to commit murder with a weapon and robbery with a weapon.
Due to juvenile status, charges were not available for the 16-year-old suspect.
The identity of the deceased and the exact cause and manner of death will be released by the Clark County Coroner's Office.
