Las Vegas, NV (KTNV) -- The police report for a recent homicide in Las Vegas has been released.

On July 27, police received several 911 calls regarding shots fired in the area of Walnut and Alexander roads; one caller was Jalen McDaniel.

Officers responded to the scene and discovered a man, later identified as Keena Day, had been shot in the chest. He was transported to UMC where he was pronounced dead.

McDaniel was later interviewed by police. He said he sent a birthday greeting to a girl on Facebook. He said he didn't know the girl nor had he ever met her in person, but he found her online photo attractive.

Later that day, McDaniel received a reply from a man who stated he was her boyfriend. The man appeared upset and wanted to meet him in person, so they could fight. They later agreed to meet.

McDaniel walked to Day's home, who lived near the intersection of Walnut and Alexander. Day retrieved a wooden pole that resembled a bat and his folding knife.

While they were waiting, McDaniel saw a green, four-door vehicle driving down Savoy Court. A short time later, three males walked towards McDaniel and Day.

One of the men produced a handgun from his waistband. He handed it to another man, who fired a round into the air. McDaniel and one of the men began fighting, and after several minutes, the fight stopped and they shook hands.

The three men then walked away, at the same time a black sedan occupied by several other men, pulled up. One of the men yelled, "Get them," and the three men began to run. Day repeated the phrase and challenged them to shoot.

Day chased after the three men while holding the knife and the wooden pole. As he got closer, one of the men fired two rounds at him. He fell to the ground.

The girl who McDaniel sent a birthday message to was later interviewed by police. She identified her boyfriend as Rodolfo Orejel. She confirmed she received the message from someone she didn't know, and Orejel became upset.

The girl said Orejel admitted he got into a fight and shot one of the men in the leg.

Orejel now faces a murder charge.
