Las Vegas, NV (KTNV) -- Las Vegas Police Officer Henry Prendes was killed 7.5 years ago while responding to a domestic disturbance call.
Many people in the Las Vegas Valley remember the death of Prendes and Friday, his widow is hoping the community will come out to celebrate his life and help a good cause.
The annual Henry Prendes Charity Golf Classic is taking place Friday.
This is the 7th year for the golf tournament. The purpose of the tournament is to raise money to build a camp for underprivileged kids.
The event is organized by Prendes' widow Dawn.
Dawn has purchased several acres near Cedar City, Utah, for the camp and she is hoping to break ground this fall.
She said the camp was Henry Prendes' dream.
This year's golf tournament is taking place at the South Shore Golf Club at Lake Las Vegas.
Sheriff Doug Gillespie is among those that is expected to participate.
In addition to the golf tournament, there will be a benefit concert at 7 p.m. Friday at the Village at Lake Las Vegas.
The concert is free but donations will be accepted.
The golf event raised $16,000 for Henry's Place.
