Las Vegas, NV (KTNV) -- An 8-year-old child is in critical condition after being hit by a pickup truck while riding his bike.
It happened around 6:45 p.m. Monday night near Sloan Lane and Sahara Avenue.
According to Las Vegas police, it appeared the boy rode through a stop sign and collided with a truck driven by a man who had the right of way.
The boy was thrown to the ground and was not wearing a helmet.
Police said the child was transported to the hospital and is now in critical condition in the pediatric ICU.
"He's got some pretty serious head injuries and a broken femur that we know right now, and we're concerned for his safety. The driver of the vehicle does not appear to be impaired. He's cooperating. He's here actually with counselors," said Metro Sgt. Richard Strader.
Police said speed does not appear to be a factor in what they're calling a terrible accident.
One of the parents of the child was standing in their driveway and the saw the crash unfold.
