$6.5M headed to Southern Nevada to fight homelessness

LAS VEGAS (AP) -- More than $6.5 million in federal money is headed to southern Nevada to help tackle homelessness.

Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid announced grants from the Department of Housing and Urban Development on Monday.

A $4.6 million Community Development Block Grant is aimed at developing housing and expanding economic opportunity for low- and moderate-income residents.

A $363,000 Emergency Solutions Grant is focused on engaging people who live on the streets and improving the number and quality of emergency shelters.

A $1.6 million HOME Grant is aimed at expanding affordable housing for low- and very low-income residents.
