'Instigators' suspended for football game stunt at local high school
Henderson, NV (KTNV) -- A group of Green Valley High School students spent the day at home following a stunt at a Friday night football game.
The students call themselves the 'Instigators,' and they shot a video of the incident that shows white flour and colored crystals shooting into the air in the student section.
"We just brought out some flour, some colored wax crystals and just threw them in the air," student Karch Williams said. "It looked pretty cool."
Williams and his buddies said the stunt was inspired by another Internet video. As 'Instigators' their job is to pump up school spirit at sports games.
"We were just doing it to hype up our team," student Andrew Quintana said. "It's playoffs now and we just wanted to show some school spirit."
But what happens under the Friday night lights doesn't always play out well on Monday morning. The 'Instigators' said 19 of them got suspension notices citing a campus disturbance.
According to the students, the suspensions last anywhere from one to three days depending on who threw the flour.
"I think we should have got community service or just a detention," student Ty Burger said. He thinks the punishment is too harsh.
The school district said it can't confirm the students were punished because of privacy policies. But the 'Instigators' said they never expected suspension.
"This is the first time we've every done anything like this," Burger said. "And its obviously our last. I don't think we'll ever do that again."
