NV Energy issues warning about phone scam

By Joyce Lupiani. CREATED Aug 30, 2013

Las Vegas, NV (KTNV) -- NV Energy has issued a warning about people posing as employees of their company in an attempt to defraud people of money.

According to NV Energy, residents of the Las Vegas Valley have been receiving phone calls from people identifying themselves as employees.

These people are telling customers that unless they make an immediate payment over the phone, their power will be disconnected.

The number that appears on caller identification is 702-490-9266 or "unknown."

These callers speak both English and Spanish.

NV Energy does not call customers and solicit payments. If a customer receives such a call, they should refuse and call local law enforcement or NV Energy.

Customers can contact NV Energy at 702-402-5555.

In addition, NV Energy requires all field employees and contractors to wear identification badges at all times.

Anyone claiming to be a NV Energy will be happy to present a badge and employee number.
