Police shoot woman after day-long standoff

Las Vegas, NV (KTNV) -- A day-long standoff has ended in an officer-involved shooting near East Tropicana Avenue and Mountain Vista on the east side of the Las Vegas valley.
Las Vegas police said the standoff ended when police were forced to shoot. A spokesperson with Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department says that SWAT made entry after hearing a gunshot.
The woman attempted to hide in a bathroom with a young child. They said that she shot at the police officers through the door, striking one officer in the leg.
SWAT returned fire as the bathroom door opened and the woman was shot in the face. She was transported to University Medical Center. Her condition is unknown but she is expected to survive.
The standoff started when a man and a woman got into a fight. The man left the home with a 10-year-old boy when police officers arrived but the woman barricaded herself inside.
Two young children, ages 2 and 3, were in the house with the woman during the standoff. The children received were also transported to the hospital to be checked out.
The children are now in the custody of Child Protective Services. Their mother will face multiple charges upon release from the hospital.
The officers involved in the shooting will be placed on routine administrative leave.
