Las Vegas, NV (KTNV) -- Las Vegas police were called to the scene of a standoff near East Tropicana Avenue and Mountain Vista on the east side of the Las Vegas valley.

According to police, a woman has barricaded herself inside of a home on Newton Drive and is refusing to come out.

Police said it began when a man and a woman got into a fight. The man eventually came out of the home but the woman did not.

Police said there are two young children in the house, a two year old and a three year old.

Neighboring homes were evacuated and police are trying to talk the woman out. The incident began around 11 p.m. Monday.

"As long as things stay the same where we can de-escalate them, we have no intention of trying to go in and apprehend her. We are going to try and solve this thing peacefully," said Sgt. John Sheahan, Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department.

Police said they expect the standoff to go well into the evening hours.

Mountain Vista is closed in the area of the standoff.
