Man killed in Sunday carjacking was California Highway Patrol officer
Las Vegas, NV (KTNV) -- A California Highway Patrol officer was killed Sunday during a carjacking attempt on the Las Vegas Strip.
The Clark County coroner has identified the carjacking victim as 33-year-old Jesus Manuel Magdaleno Jr. from Visalia, Calif.
Magdaleno was listed as a California Highway Patrol officer in the arrest report for the accused carjacker.
According to Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department, Magdaleno and Felix Brandon Cruz were in the back of a truck that had been stolen from the valet area of the Flamingo hotel-casino.
It happened at about 11 a.m. Sunday morning. After the truck was stolen, it sped along Flamingo Road until it crashed into an SUV.
Magdaleno and another man were thrown from the bed of the truck. Magdaleno was killed and the other man was transported to University Medical Center with life-threatening injuries.
The suspect in the carjacking was also taken to a hospital.
