Las Vegas, NV (KTNV) -- Ellie the dog has been going through a "ruff" few weeks. She's at Nevada's Society for Prevention and Cruelty to Animals facility after she was found during the evacuation of Kyle Canyon because of the Carpenter 1 wildfire.

"She was in distress, but she was just trotting along doing the best she could," said executive director of the Nevada SPCA Doug Duke. "Just trying to get to safety too."

A family rescued Ellie as threatening orange flames flanked the mountainside and hot smoke filled the air.

"Thank goodness they stopped the car, squeezed her in somehow because they said they had no room and brought her here into safety," Duke said.

When Ellie first came to the SPCA, staff said she smelled a lot like smoke. But those who took her in know she was just happy to get off the mountain.

"She was in good spirits so she came in here smiling and just joyful and really grateful," Duke said. "I feel like she was so grateful for their kindness."

Staff at the SPCA said they tried to track down Ellie's owner, but haven't had any luck.

"At this point 13 days later, it's time to find her a loving forever home," Duke said.

The two-year-old bully mix is up for adoption. Staff said she's a fun loving and loyal pup.
