Man sentenced for robbing jewelry store with stolen gun
Las Vegas, NV (KTNV) -- A man who stole a handgun from his brother and used it to rob a local jewelry store, has been sentenced to 11 years in prison.
33-year-old John James Ericson of Las Vegas was sentenced on Tuesday after pleading guilty to one count of interference with commerce by robbery.
In Oct. 2012, Ericson went into a jewelry store, approached the male owner, and stated he was looking for engagement rings.
When the owner opened the case, Ericson produced a semi-automatic handgun and threatened him. Ericson then stole approximately $35,000 in jewelry and fled.
He was arrested later that same day.
It was determined that the gun Ericson used during the robbery had been reported stolen by his brother, who is an officer with the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department.
