(KTNV) -- A new study from the Center for Disease Control says there is a new epidemic that is striking women.

According to the CDC, prescription pill overdoses have skyrocketed among women.

The pills involved are usually Vicodin and Oxycontin and the numbers are shocking.

The report says that a woman is admitted to the ER for a prescription pill overdose every three minutes.

And the number of women dying from those overdoses has jumped 400 percent between 1999 and 2010.

Some women are now stepping out of the shadows to tell their stories.

Those women say that they were usually very good at hiding it but that it (taking pills) would consume their entire lives.

They also questioned how they could be addicted if the pills were prescribed to them.

Doctors say that women are much more likely to suffer from painful conditions like fibromyalgia and migraines which are often treated by prescription pills.
