KINGMAN, Ariz. (AP) -- Authorities in Mohave County are advising residents of some Hualapai Mountains communities to evacuate due to a lightning-started fire burning southeast of Kingman.
The Dean Peak fire started Saturday and is burning in brush and pine trees in an area with rugged terrain. It had burned 908 acres by Monday.
The Sheriff's Office initially said there was a mandatory evacuation order but later clarified that it's advisory only.
The evacuation advisory covers the communities of Pine Lake and Hualapai Mountain Park. Communications sites also are threatened.
Sheriff's spokeswoman Trish Carter says probably more than 100 homes are effected by the advisory, including vacation cabins and year-round homes.
The federal Bureau of Land Management says 100 people are assigned to the fire and that a fire management team is en route.
