NV Energy prepared for extra demand during heat wave
Las Vegas, NV (KTNV) -- We could hit record energy usage in Clark County this weekend and the officials at NV Energy say they are ready.
NV Energy is firing up their extra generating units to cope with the extra demand. They have 24 of them and they are called "peakers" because they are used to supply extra power when there is peak usage.
NV Energy says the peakers enable them to maintain electricity reliably during these high energy times.
The peakers work like jet engines on a plane.
All 24 of the peakers can go from being fully shut down to full power in 10 minutes.
