Air conditioning companies brace for record-breaking repair calls

Las Vegas, NV (KTNV) -- Record-breaking heat has local air conditioning companies gearing up for a record number of calls for repairs.
Experts say one way to protect yourself from potentially crippling repair bills is paying for maintenance service first.
A thorough check of your unit could reveal problems your air conditioning unit could develop down the road.
Companies like Quality's One-Hour Air Conditioning and Heating expect to have technicians working back-to-back shifts over the next few days.
Technician Tony Braica says, "People don't measure the level of how bad it is. If they don't feel cold air, it's pretty bad."
A company manager says calls involving health and safety, particularly those involving children and the elderly, will take priority over maintenance calls.
If you do need to buy a new air conditioning unit, keep in mind they can run tens of thousands of dollars, so the best advice is to shop around. Many companies offer payment plans.
