Boulder City, NV (KTNV) -- Lake Mead National Park rangers are investigating a possible drowning at Lake Mead.
Rangers said a 30-year-old man was out boating with friends just north of Callville Bay when he and a friend jumped off the boat to take a swim. Soon thereafter, they struggled to stay afloat. Meanwhile, their boat drifted away.
The friend was rescued by a nearby boat, but the man went under.
A 911 call was placed at approximately 3 p.m.
Park Rangers looked for him for awhile but stopped all operations until Monday due to the severity of the wind. Metro will also be out with divers to assist in the investigation.
Alcohol may have been involved in this incident.
The group was not wearing life jackets.
Game Warden Cameron Waithman told Action News, "On a day like this when it's really windy, we definitely advise the public to wear life jackets, especially if you're going swimming. The wind's going to blow your boat away and you're not going to be able to swim back to it."
