Police report details illegal brothel bust in East Las Vegas

CREATED Jun. 21, 2013

Las Vegas, NV (KTNV) -- New information on an illegal brothel that was raided earlier this week has been revealed by a Las Vegas police report.

Maricruz Ortiz-Guevara and Miguel Barahona face charges of pandering and accepting or receiving earnings from a prostitute.
According to the report released on Friday, when SWAT officers served a search warrant at a home in the 2000 block of Kirk Avenue, near Bonanza and Eastern on June 20, they found the couple, three suspected prostitutes and a customer.
According to the report, one of the tips that led police to the home was from a cable installer who said he observed three Hispanic women in the kitchen wearing skimpy clothing, saw several Hispanic men entering and leaving the residence, and heard moaning and groaning noises coming from several bedrooms.
Neighbors had their suspicions. Many saw a lot of foot traffic at the home, and lots of cars parked on the street.
One said, "But I was surprised that it was a brothel. I thought it was either stolen cars or maybe even drugs."
In the report, Ortiz-Guevara told police that Barahona is her boyfriend, and he was helping her run the illegal brothel because she is seven months pregnant.
Barahona denied any knowledge that prostitution was taking place, even though he admitted buying condoms and other supplies and police saw him closing up shop every day.
