(KTNV) -- According to the latest information, the NSA surveillance programs are now being credited with disrupting dozens of terrorist plots.
Officials have revealed that at least 50 terror plots have been foiled with the help of information gathered through surveillance programs.
One of those foiled plots involved an al Qaeda plan to bomb the New York Stock Exchange in 2008.
Civil liberties groups say the government has gone too far though and that many of the still-classified plots could likely have been caught another way.
Others point out that despite all the snooping on American's phones and Internet searches, the government missed all the warning signs about the Boston Marathon bombers.
