June 14th is National Flag Day
Las Vegas, NV (KTNV) -- Friday, June 14 is National Flag Day.
The first Flag Day was observed on June 14, 1861 in Hartford, Conn.
In 1877, Congress ordered that the flag be flown on all public buildings on this date.
Next, President Woodrow Wilson issued a proclamation asking America to observe the day in 1916.
Finally Congress, in a joint resolution, agreed to an official flag day and President Harry Truman approved.
Palm Mortuaries and Cemeteries in Las Vegas is offering to take any flags that are old, worn, faded or soiled.
They will be holding a special ceremony today to properly dispose of the collected flags.
