Las Vegas, NV (KTNV) -- A large group of casino, restaurant, and hotel workers is expected to picket on the Las Vegas strip this afternoon and block traffic. They are trying to bring attention to stalled contract negotiations between the Culinary Workers Union and some of the large casinos.
The Culinary Workers Union is one of the largest in the Valley, representing more than 40,000 people who work in the hospitality industry. A lot of those members work in hotels and casinos on the strip or in downtown Las Vegas.
Friday's protest is supposed to happen around 5 p.m. near the front of the The Cosmopolitan hotel and casino where negotiations have been stalled on issues.
According to Yvanna Cancela with the Culinary Workers Union, The Cosmopolitan has been in negotiations with the Culinary Workers Union Local 226 and Bartenders Local 165 for more than two years. They haven't been able to come to an agreement on certain issues like health care benefits and wages.
The union says its members plan to rally at the corner of Harmon and Las Vegas Boulevard and block two lanes of traffic.
