Annual ceremony honors recent Hispanic graduates

CREATED Jun. 9, 2013

Las Vegas, NV (KTNV) -- The annual Hispanic Baccalaureate Ceremony was held on Sunday at the Thomas & Mack Center.

The event honored more than 1,300 Hispanic students from high schools throughout Southern Nevada.

The Hispanic Educators Association of Nevada recognizes Hispanic students, many of which are first generation graduates in their families, for their perseverance to achieve this rite of passage.

One family member spoke with Action News about his sister, who just graduated, "She is my role model, even though she's younger. I look up to her a lot because I did not finish school, but I will because she's persuaded me. She taught me that finishing school is a very important step in life."

This year's event was expected to see 12,000 family members and community leaders attend.
