Local officials take action to prevent incidents on last day of school
Las Vegas, NV (KTNV) -- Parents picking up their kids on this last day of school will probably notice more police presence than usual.
That's because counter terrorism officials in our area take this day very seriously.
Authorities say the potential for violence goes up on the last day of school.
Kids may think there are fewer consequences or they're not gonna see all their friends anymore.
So inside this building, representatives from 18 agencies are working together. They're all housed on one floor and they call it the Fusion Center.
Everyone from school police to Henderson Police to the FBI... All there working together.
To monitor phones, texts, and social media.
So if they sense anything that seems like a threat to our kids, that can activate resources - like THAT.
They've been doing this on the first and last day of school since 2008 after a Palo Verde high school student was shot and killed.
Since this program, there hasn't been another campus incident like that in our area.
