Las Vegas, NV (KTNV) -- Locals came together on Sunday to make sure deployed soldiers know we're thinking about them back here at home.

The Douglas J. Green Memorial Foundation held the event at 24 Hour Fitness on Village Center Circle.

Volunteers helped put together care packages for local deployed soldiers.

The foundation collected donations that'll be sent overseas.

"One of the things that we know our troops really do appreciate is getting letters and care packages from home, especially snacks and little munchies. Obviously they don't have a local store they can go purchase these items from," said Jody Shervanick, volunteer.

The care packages are full of beef jerky, crackers, cookies and of course, letters and cards.

The organization puts on four care package events each year.
