North Las Vegas, NV (KTNV) -- Mena Norwood is in critical condition after a horrible crash on Mother's Day. The 13-year-old girl suffered a severe head and neck injury.
Sadly, her 17-year-old step-brother, Jahlonn Williams, didn't survive.
They were hit by a driver who police say was going twice the speed limit and ran a stop sign.
The accident happened near Mojave High School in North Las Vegas early Sunday morning.
18-year-old Douglas Bruce -- the other driver -- was arrested at the scene. Police believe he may have been driving under the influence.
"There's just no excuse for this," says Mena's mother Tiffany Beard. "It's devastating. But Mena is a fighter. We know she can get through this."
"Right now, our family is not holding up very well," adds Jahlonn and Mena's aunt Tonia Jones. "It feels like some bomb has exploded all of our hearts. We're just in pieces trying to put everything back together."
A fund called "In Memory of Jahlonn" has been set up at U.S. Bank. The account number is 153755440648.
Jahlonn's funeral will be held at 11 a.m. this Saturday at Second Baptist Church.
