Las Vegas police host event to build community involvement

Las Vegas, NV (KTNV) -- The Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department is trying to keep local streets safer, and they're getting the community involved.

They held a BBQ on Saturday afternoon in the northwest neighborhood of Arpa and Bellotta.

Through bounce houses, bean bag games and food, they helped the community learn that they can be a part of policing.

"We try to get people to be better reporters of suspicious activity," said Kathy Perkins, a crime prevention specialist with Metro. "When crime is in the area, they're less afraid to call. we want their reports on things that are happening."

Officers hold these events frequently in different neighborhoods across the Valley to help build neighborhood involvement.
