Saudi sergeant rape trial delayed in Las Vegas
LAS VEGAS (AP) -- Trial has been postponed in Nevada for a Saudi Arabia air force sergeant accused of abducting and raping a 13-year-old boy at a Las Vegas Strip hotel on New Year's Eve.
Defense attorney Don Chairez said Thursday that a state judge plans next week to reschedule trial for Mazen Alotaibi. Chairez says he needs more time to gather information in the case and told the judge he wasn't ready to start Monday.
Alotaibi remains jailed on $1.72 million bail. He's charged with kidnapping, sexual assault of a minor under 14, lewdness with a child, coercion and burglary.
Chairez says he doesn't believe the boy's claim that he was forced into a room and raped early Dec. 31 at the Circus-Circus hotel-casino.
