Volunteers revamp Martinez home where 2 were killed
Las Vegas, NV (KTNV) -- Keller Williams Realty employees didn't go to work Thursday, but they did work hard. Once a year, they put on their red shirts for "RED day" which stands for Renew, Energize, Donate.
"Our whole office has shut down," says Leah Gonzales, "and we're all here volunteering in the community."
This year, they decided to help renovate the home of Arturo Martinez. His wife and daughter were killed a year ago. It was a crime that touched many of these volunteers.
"I grew up a block from here and I was horrified," says Gonazles. "I couldn't imagine what he's going through, how he's rebuilding his life."
Martinez did not show up at home Thursday, but his sister did.
"It is it hard to be at this house, and it will be forever," says Gaudia Martinez. "But we have to keep going."
They're hoping to eventually rent the home out, which is why volunteers wasted no time cleaning up.
"The sooner we can get this done, the sooner he can make some income and move forward from this"
Seeing the volunteers, Martinez says "it took my heart. It's very touching."
