Alleged pimp wants judge removed from Vegas case
LAS VEGAS (AP) -- A 28-year-old Las Vegas man accused of torturing and beating a woman who worked as his prostitute is seeking the recusal of a state court judge who was due to sentence him next week for violating terms of a plea deal in a prior case.
Arman Izadi's lawyer, Michael Cristalli, filed court documents Friday alleging that Clark County District Court Judge Douglas Smith improperly declared Izadi guilty in the pending case and shouldn't have ordered Izadi jailed without bail.
A hearing is scheduled May 20.
Izadi pleaded guilty in October to attempted battery and could have gotten probation in a case alleging he attacked a man hired to produce a music video.
Izadi is jailed on 20 felony charges including kidnapping, pandering, extortion and coercion following his April 24 arrest.
