(KTNV) -- A pacifier is a mom's best friend until it falls on the floor and sends a baby into a fit.
Once a pacifier has hit the ground, many parents will throw it out. Other parents boil them and some just give it a quick rinse in the sink.
And some moms just use spit to clean their child's pacifier.
According to some doctors, that could actually be the best option for a healthy baby.
Swedish researchers followed 174 babies and their parents for several years and tested them for allergies, eczema and asthma.
They also asked parents how they cleaned off pacifiers and found that nearly half of them used their mouths and spit.
By the time their children were 18 months old, those babies whose parents cleaned their pacifiers with their own mouths were less likely to have allergies.
The researchers think this was because parents exposed their children to bacteria in their saliva, stimulating the babies' immune systems.
Obviously though, only healthy parents should use this method.
