CCSD teachers recognized during Teacher Appreciation Week

Las Vegas, NV (KTNV) -- 18,000 teachers in the Clark County School District will be recognized this week during Teacher Appreciation Week.

Several events will take place throughout the week. The first event took place Monday morning at the Will Beckley Elementary School where one of the New Teacher of the Year honorees was surprised with cake, balloons and more.

Other scheduled events include:

-- Tuesday, May 7: 11 a.m.-12:30 p.m., Staff at one school will be treated to lunch and a special performance by a local dance group. Terry Kennedy, CEO of Appreciation Financial will also be on hand to give away gift cards to every teacher for the Teacher Exchange, resulting in an additional $30,000 in classroom resources.

-- Wednesday, May 8: The Las Vegas Metro Chamber of Commerce will honor one teacher that was able to raise student test scores during a special presentation at The Rio. The teacher will receive a plaque, a gift basket from Office Depot and a cash gift honoring the teacher's hard work and the academic achievements of the students.

-- Thursday, May 9: One teacher will have an amazing night. The teacher will be whisked away after school to special Las Vegas Strip location, where they will receive a makeover, a $500 shopping spree, dinner and show tickets will be provided. Additionally, the teacher will have photo displayed on the electronic billboard outside the venue.  Media are invited to cover the classroom surprise, the makeover and shopping spree. The CCSD Communications Office will also provide a photo release for media use the following day.

-- Friday, May 10: A popular Strip performer will surprise the staff of one school with a private performance and tickets to a show. One teacher will also be selected to receive a VIP experience.

-- Friday, May 10: Teachers from one school will end their week in style with some fun in the sun at a pool party and entertainment at a hotel and casino.
