(KTNV) -- You may not have heard but your lipstick could be bad for your health.
Researchers at the University of California Berkley set out to test lipstick and lip gloss.
They looked at 32 commonly-sold brands and found lead in 24 of them but not at excessive levels.
Some of the lipsticks they examined did have worrisome levels of chromium, which is a carcinogen.
As a result of their study, the researchers say that kids should not wear lipstick at all and adults should use it much less.
When not blotted or kissed off, lipstick is typically ingested or absorbed.
The health effects depend on how often and how much of the product is applied.
The average user puts on lipstick twice a day and ingests 24 milligrams a day.
The researchers also said that women shouldn't toss out their lipstick but they should be aware that there is a potential health risk.
