Maker of senior-friendly cellphone expands to Reno
RENO, Nev. (AP) -- A California company that markets a no-frills cellphone to seniors says it's expanding into Nevada.
Wireless company GreatCall announced Monday that it plans to hire 400 people in the Reno area over the next five years.
GreatCall sells the Jitterbug cellphone, which has a simple keypad and a large-print display. It also offers the 5Star Urgent Response system, which connects users to a dispatcher with the touch of a button and can be used by seniors in medical emergencies.
GreatCall says the positions in Reno will include call center and emergency dispatch jobs.
Officials with the San Diego-based company say they chose Reno over Kansas City, Texas and Michigan. CEO David Inns said Reno is closer to headquarters and has a business-friendly environment with an educated workforce.
