Opportunity Village benefits from Nevada's Big Give
Las Vegas, NV (KTNV) -- Local charities are benefiting from citizen's donations for Nevada's Big Give, an annual day meant for giving back.
Opportunity Village is one of the many local charities that receives help from the generosity of others.
On Thursday, folks at Opportunity Village were hard at work wrapping up silverware for a local restaurant. It's a job they take a lot of pride in, and the directors are happy they can give it to them.
"We help about 3,000 people a year with intellectual disabilities," said Crystal with Opportunity Village. "These are folks that have been forgotten by most of society."
The work of Opportunity Village is made possible by donations, like those gathered for Nevada's Big Give.
That's why they're hoping people in the community think of them on Thursday.
Nevada's Big Give is a 24-hour initiative helping more than 500 Nevada charities all through one website.
This is the second year of the Big Give, and the first time there's a headquarters at the Miracle Mile Shops where people can stop by and donate.
Beyond raising money, the big give raises awareness for charities many people haven't heard of or don't know much about.
As the people at Opportunity Village point out, it doesn't take a big donation to "Give Big."
"Your donation of $5, $10 or $10,000 will mean the world to the people we serve here," Crystal said.
