Nevada sales up 4.2 percent in February
CARSON CITY, Nev. (AP) -- Nevada sales rose 4.2 percent in February compared with the same month last year.
A report Thursday by the state Department of Taxation shows Nevada merchants sold nearly $3.4 billion in goods during the month, on which the state collected $265,000 in gross sales and use taxes.
The collections represent a 2.3 percent increase from February 2012. Statewide, 13 of Nevada's 17 counties reported increased taxable sales.
But the report also notes that the portion of sales taxes that help fund state government is $8 million below projections made last fall by the Economic Forum.
The independent panel is charged with predicting Nevada tax revenues on which the state budget is based. The forum is scheduled to meet next Wednesday to make a final forecast for the next two years.
