Las Vegas, NV (KTNV) -- Tyrone Thompson was sworn in as the new Assemblyman for Nevada's Assembly District 17 on Wednesday.
Thompson fills the vacancy left after Steven Brooks was ousted following a series of run-ins with the law.
Clark County Commissioners appointed Thompson to fill the seat.
"I'm excited to represent the people of District 17 and look forward to working with my colleagues in the legislature to build a better Nevada," said Thompson in a release.
Thompson also said he plans to focus on improving Nevada's education system and economy.
He will serve on the Judiciary, Natural Resources, Agriculture, Mining, Health and Human Services, Legislative Operations and Elections Committees.
