Family of six displaced by fire, careless smoking could be to blame
Las Vegas, NV (KTNV) -- Fire damaged a home near West Lake Mead Boulevard and North Decatur Boulevard on Tuesday evening.
Firefighters were called to the home on Spider Court just before 7 p.m. When they arrived, heavy smoke was coming out of the vents and eaves of the attic.
Firefighters found the main portion of the fire in the attic and was able to bring it under control within five minutes.
Four children between the ages of 2 and 7 and their mother was able to escape the house before the fire. The family of six is now being assisted by the American Red Cross. There were no reported injuries because of the fire.
Fire investigators determined that the fire started on a couch that was outside against the rear wall of the house. The couch burned up the side of the home undetected and spread into the attic.
Fire investigators say that the fire could have been caused by smoking.
