Las Vegas, NV (KTNV) -- Congressman Steven Horsford is back from Washington, D.C., and speaking with locals about the progress being made on comprehensive immigration reform.
“This is a huge milestone. This is the first comprehensive immigration reform bill in three decades,” said Horsford.
Horsford says the 800-page proposal will increase border security, provide guidelines for a pathway to citizenship, and ensure jobs are held only by those who can work here legally.
The meeting comes just one day after Florida senator, Republican Marco Rubio, came to discuss the same proposal. But Horsford, a Democrat, says the two sides are seeing eye-to-eye.
“There really is more agreement I think on comprehensive immigration reform than ever before,” said Horsford.
The Senate's bill came out earlier this week; the House is expected to introduce their version at the end of the month. If those bills pass, the House and Senate will come together and finalize a proposal for the president.
