Las Vegas, NV (KTNV) -- The man accused of shooting an aspiring rapper on the Las Vegas Strip almost two months ago has been returned to Las Vegas.

Ammar Harris, 27, was booked into the Clark County Detention Center at about 4 a.m. Tuesday and is scheduled for a hearing at 7:30 a.m. April 17.

Harris arrived in Las Vegas without incident despite authorities receiving information that he was contemplating attempts to escape instead of facing prosecution.

Harris is accused of shooting Kenneth Cherry Jr. on Feb. 21 as the two of them drove down the Las Vegas Strip. After Cherry was shot, he slammed into a taxi, killing the driver and a tourist from Washington State.

Five other people were also injured in the crash.

An intense manhunt for the person responsible followed the shooting. Ammar Harris was arrested near Los Angeles, Calif., on Feb. 28.

"It was inevitable that he was going to be brought back to Las Vegas to face the music, as they say. So it delayed the process by a month or a couple of months. But at the end of the day, Mr. Harris is here, he'll be in court and the prosecution can move forward," said Steve Wolfson, Clark County district attorney.

Harris fought extradition but the governors of Nevada and California signed an extradition order, forcing his return.
